Solar Sail

The Solar Sail was the Eressians' Christmas Gift in 2004.

Originally, it provided a unique and extreme acceleration for a ship (range of +50 regions).
The underlying idea was to facilitate (peaceful) contact between different races over great distances.
Even "world travelers" traversing the cosmic spiral in their ships in both directions could benefit from it.

Unfortunately, some also used their Solar Sails for less peaceful purposes, whether to quickly summon reinforcements against a suddenly appearing army, or, more often, to facilitate their own invasion of distant (and therefore often younger) islands.

This occurred against the express wishes of the Christmas Gnome, and some even attempted to conceal their actions by renaming the ships.
Displeased with the situation, the Christmas Gnome cast a spell that radically altered the way a Solar Sail functions.
